Personal Trainer Amsterdam for Locals

Fit by David is a personal training studio in central Amsterdam that coaches inside the private gyms of five-star hotels. Why train in a hotel gym if you live here?

The problem with training in Amsterdam is rarely motivation. It's the 18:30 queue for the squat rack, the changing room at capacity, and the twelve-month contract you signed for a gym you visit twice a week.

Hotel gyms sit in a useful gap. Private members' clubs are expensive and still busy at peak. Basement studios are cheap and cramped. A five-star hotel gym is properly equipped, well maintained, centrally located, and — outside the morning peak — close to empty. You get access as part of your session rather than as a separate membership you have to justify each month.

The four training formats

1-on-1 personal training, from €75 per session

One coach, one client, one program. The default choice, and the right one if you're returning from injury, working around a specific limitation, or want the hour built entirely around you. See 1-on-1 personal training.

Duo personal training, from €41 per person

One coach, two people, the same 60 minutes of coaching, roughly 45% less each. The most popular format among local clients — partners, flatmates, colleagues. You don't need to be at the same fitness level; the coach runs two programs in parallel. See duo personal training.

Small group training, from €33 per person

Three to six people in a private slot, each following their own program rather than one routine for the whole room. Booked as a group, not a drop-in class. See small group training.

Company training, from €20 per person

Weekly team sessions, or a half-day or full-day training day for an Amsterdam-based team. Quoted per group. See group personal training.

How the first twelve weeks work

New clients start with a twelve-week block, structured in three phases:

  1. Weeks 1–4, Foundation. Movement quality, full-body strength fundamentals, and the habits that make the rest possible.
  2. Weeks 5–8, Intensification. More training volume, measurable performance gains, lifestyle habits reinforced.
  3. Weeks 9–12, Peak. Refine the goal, push toward your best result, lock the habits in.

After twelve weeks it moves to a monthly membership of 4, 8, 12 or 16 sessions. Most people continue. Not everyone follows the phases strictly — plenty of clients train simply because they like the hour, the room and the coaching, and that's a legitimate reason to keep going.

Recovery in the same building

Because the gyms sit inside hotels, the treatment rooms and spa are fifty metres from the squat rack. Locals use them without staying overnight.

  • Sports and deep tissue massage — 60 minutes, €120, built around your training week rather than a fixed routine. Massage in Amsterdam
  • Ice bath and breathwork — 75 minutes, €95, guided. Wellness experiences
  • Private spa and sauna access — a real recovery afternoon instead of a crowded public wellness centre.

Who this suits, and who it doesn't

It suits people who have trained before and want the hour to count. People coming back from injury who'd rather not do it in front of a crowd. Parents with exactly one free hour. Professionals whose diary decides when they train.

It doesn't suit everyone. If you want a large social gym floor, group classes on a timetable, and a smoothie bar, a commercial gym will make you happier and cost you less.

No. Gym access is included in the price of your session. There is no separate membership, joining fee or day pass to buy.

Can I use a hotel gym in Amsterdam if I'm not staying at the hotel?

As a Fit by David client, yes — access comes with your session. The gyms are not open to the general public, which is why they are quiet.

How much does a personal trainer cost in Amsterdam?

Is there a long contract?

Twelve weeks to start, then monthly, which you can pause or stop. Single sessions are also available.
